Kicked Revan to stop him from cheating, voting would have taken too long and he would have foiled the rush, hence ruining the pug.
Banned MikeL for trying to crash the server, which would have ruined pugs for about a week or until Guard restarted the server.
I think both were justified, and I think most people, including Guard, would agree with me.

Thaaaat's right, because Guard isn't around as much as we'd like, just means we have to ban more people!

I agree that admins should generally go easy on the bans. They should really only be used for extreme or repeated bad behavior IMO. Most dudes will get the point after a kick or you know, simply asking them kindly to stop whatever they're doing. Personally, I usually kick first if what they're doing is a blatant disregard of the clearly posted rules; I only warn first if it the behavior was an overboard attempt at having "fun". I leave the bans to Guard, myself.

but if he had have successfully managed to crash the server, even though I knew he was trying, then people would be on my case asking why I didn't act sooner.
I don't ban people easily, but intentionally crashing a server = ban.

I agree that attempting to crash a server is a bannable offense... as long as it can be pretty clearly proven (or at least vouched for by several people). Just my $0.02 is all. I'm just of the opinion that generally the best admins are those who keep a cool head.
