So, I recently started playing the old classic Grim Fandango (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grim_Fandango) and after playing about an hour into the game I decided there is no way in hell I can play through the entire game with it's terrible keyboard controls.
The game does have an option for a gamepad/controller, and I've tried two and can not get them to work at all. I've tried a PS2 controller connected via a USB adapter, and a Logitech Dual Action controller. When I go to configure them in the control panel, both work fine. All the settings are enabled for a gamepad on the in-game menu.
I've googled around a bunch, and checked the LucasArts forum and found accounts of people using Logitech controllers like mine, so I know it must work somehow. I've also found a few reports of people failing with a PS2 controller, so that one probably doesn't work (though I'd prefer it.)
Any help would be awesome, because I do like the game - just hate the keyboard controls. And yes, I have read about how an Xbox controller is configured for this game out of the box - and no, I will not buy one of the old giant-brick sized xbox controllers to play a single game (especially since I hate xboxes, and everything about them.)
Any help is appreciated dudes.

I wish I could help. All I can say is that I did play the entire game through with just the keyboard controls. It's not impossible but there are a few areas where it was a little clunky.

Well, you didn't mention your OS.
Pretty sure this is a dos game, is it not?
Also, XBOX 360 controllers work fine with windows unless they are wireless. :/
Then you need a wireless adapter.

I'm on win7 64bit. Game runs fine in compatibility for WinXP SP3. Controller just doesn't register in game.

Also, I've never used this, but I just happened to google this tonight:
http://quick.mixnmojo.com/software/grim-fandango-setup
I dunno if that would help....it could even be a virus for all I know.
Oh, and I guess that GF is not on the compatibility list of scummvm...had more time to look shit up tonight.
Let us know if any of this works.

Thanks for the help Archi! I was actually going to download a launcher and mess around with it, until I accidentally stumbled upon a program called Xpadder. (I actually found it trying to configure a gamepad for a different game.)
Pretty sweet application, lets you map controllers to mouse and keyboard controls (ie: You can map an analog stick to act like a mouse, and everything else to act like buttons.) and that seems like it's going to work out perfectly!
/Problem resolved.
