"Computer running slow" and "bad ping on servers" are not synonymous situations. You can have a fucking beastly machine and still get internet lag. And you say you want to be an engineer...? Aim high, I guess.

Anyway Magyk, I hope your ping continues to behave as it has been... Have you tried calling your ISP? There've been a couple occasions during which Charter was doing maintenance on the cables lines or whatever, and that was the reason for a most horrid connection issue (basically couldn't do anything). So it might be worth a try.

Day two and everything still seems fine. I guess when I rewired everything after trying a hardwire it fixed it. I'd tried shutting my modem/router off before, apparently not for long enough? /shrug.

It is possible that your ISP was just having trouble with something on their end, as well. They have a tendency to do that sometimes.

BTW....for what it's worth....

If you're using wireless networking, you aren't really serious about having a good connection.

It depends. While wireless internet connection can get very reliable compared to what it used to be, if you play seriously enough just one minor hiccup once in a while can be enough to turn you off to the idea of it.

The same idea with wireless mice. While wireless mice can be very reliable nowadays, and have pretty minimal response time hits, that ONE signal loss for .25 seconds once in a while is enough to make you want to tear your hair out.

Why I usually go hardwire when I feel like gaming online. My wireless is a tad faster, but my wired is a bit more stable.
