consoles are great for flight/space sims
and if by third person shooter you mean things like reborn boss power battles, then maybe...and the kinds of games where it's more finding the right button than aiming (like tomba)
reborn boss power battles was so bad. it was like playing the ground combat in rogue squadron series. LOOK AT ME I'M A TINY BLIP ON THE SCREEN AND I'M SOMEHOW SUPPOSED TO SEE WHAT I'M DOING LMFAO.
yea.

By TPS's I mean the over-the-shoulder shooters, like the more recent Resident Evil's (Five sucked btw; super big disappointment) and Deadspace.
Also, I personally think Flight games are better on PC - but probably only because I have a joystick.
Btw turk, if you like flight games you should seriously check into Crimson Skies. It's the best flight game ever, unless you're going to obnoxious about realism, because it's more arcadey. =P But basically it's about Air Pirates in an alternate United States that was broken up into different countries after WWI - as a result the highways deteriorate and flying becomes the most popular form of travel. You play as Nathan Zachary, leader of the Fortune Hunters, and you're sort of like the "robin hood"-of-pirates.
It's one of my favorite games of all time (See list) , easily my favorite flight game.

Yea, I used to be really into fliers and I'm still up for them, but I'll admit I'm also impartial to eye candy.
And flight sims are actually great on controllers too. What I mean by them being on consoles vs PC is that if you've got controllers/joysticks on both, it doesn't make much difference other than the console's higher ease of rendering. But you don't by any means need a mouse and keyboard for flight sims, controller or joystick work great too so that's why it can work on a console.

Why pay for a console when a computer can do everything a console can do and do it better?
The only thing about that is some games only come on certain consoles...which is also lame.
I'm not that much of a hardcore gamer, so it doesn't really affect me much.
I did buy a 360 controller for my PC to play games like Assassin's Creed.
Bottom line is, I'd rather spend money upgrading my PC rather than buying a new...or two or three consoles every couple of years.

Yeah, I actually quite enjoy the Ace Combat games on Ps2, I was never really into like "real" flight sims, where you have to actually manage the planes system and stuff.
And for the record ; Rogue Squadron ground missions were awful.

Computers get outdated faster than consoles do. When you buy a console, you have at least 6-7 years before a new one comes out, and there's some consoles that last longer than that, like the NES lasted I think 10 years until 1993. With computers, you blink and all your hardware and shit gets outdated.Max Rambone wrote:I'm actually semi-anti-console.C2PO wrote:What the fuck are you people playing? With computers, you have to update a shitload of stuff in order to get a new game working. New video card? That's $100. More RAM? Another $50. Got viruses and need a reboot? That's ANOTHER $50. Oh shit, need a new sound card. ANOTHER $50. And this goes down the lines every 2-3 years. AND the games cost $20-30 dollars, and they need the newest hardware out to work of course. With consoles, you pay your flat rate of $250-400 (depending on the console), and all you have to do is pay for games. None of this fucking upgrade bullshit I have to do every time I want to play a new game for my PC. No viruses, no registry errors, no bullshit with consoles. Most are built well and will last for years to come. I have a NES that's coming up on 25 years old just about, still works fine. Genesis that's 20 years old? Works fine. AND YET MY FUCKING 9-YEAR OLD PC CRAPS OUT ON ME WITH FUCKING BSoDs, viruses, slowdown, WHICH IS WHY IT'S BULLSHIT.
One more reason why I like consoles? Games are infinitely better on consoles than they are on PC. Let's face it, there are few games that really make you want to upgrade your PC, if any at all. Hell, some of the better PC games like reborn boss Academy and Counter-Strike are ON CONSOLES. There's no killer-apps for a PC. Most PC games get thrown into oblivion and aren't worth JACK SHIT a few years after they come out. Video games only increase in value (unless it's sports games) and can be a nice investment.
Oh, and a console comes with a controller, I don't have to play with a keyboard and mouse.
That is why PC gaming fucking pales in comparison to console gaming.

Now that's the tastiest crunch I ever hoid.

I think you prices are kinda off one way or the other...
A decent GFX card can cost about $100 dollars but you can also find cards that will work for way less and cards that kick ass for way more.
I can remember when RAM was about $20/MB but now you can buy some nice DDR3 at about $0.02/MB. That comes out to about $40 which is pretty close to your figure, I guess...BUT, if you bought enough to begin with when you bought the computer, it shouldn't be an issue.
If you get viruses and have to pay someone to fix it for you, you probably should not be doing things that would cause you to get a virus, get a better AV program, or learn to do it yourself.
I haven't heard of anyone needing a sound card upgrade in about 15 years and I think you can get a satisfactory sound card for less than $20 nowadays.
My first PC is going on 16 years old and it still works. My second PC...still works...my third PC still works.
I upgrade about every 5 years which is about the timeline for each new console of a given breed.
As far as BSoDs, registry errors, and the rest, it sounds to me like you do things on your computer that you probably shouldn't. I've had maybe 3 viruses on any of my PCs ever....I've only ever had registry errors when I was hacking it and fucked up and you can blame most BSoDs on a corrupted installation of Windblows.
I disagree. The availability of CURRENT console games is far greater and the advantage goes to them 'cause you can rent them and take them back, but I have an extensive collection of great PC games that I could pop in and play on my current PC without having to drag old hardware out. That's decades of great games that I can play without having 20 different setups. That's not including the fact that you can play tons of old console AND PC games from a variety of websites....most of them free. I won't even discuss the fact that games are but a very small portion of what computers can do.C2PO wrote:One more reason why I like consoles? Like I said, you can buy a nearly unlimited amount of controllers for the PC, but I do believe that the 360 controller is one of the best out there right now....That's why I bought one. You can even buy a USB adapter and yews wireless ones if you wish. While consoles are generally slightly cheaper, computers are(can be) far more powerful. New PC games are always the cutting edge of graphics with sufficient hardware.C2PO wrote:That is why PC gaming fucking pales in comparison to console gaming.
If you're a computer nub and/or like platforms the console is definitely the way to go.
If you like FPSs, RPGs, or similar games, you're better off with a PC.
Also, online multiplayer still rather sucks on consoles and that's the main reason I game....the human adversary without a damned split screen.

Do you mean to tell me I'm at least 30 years old?
Also keep in mind that some consoles can "last" simply because of a hiatus in development.
PCs are also better because of how you're able to modify games (looking at the bright side not the dark side). You can do rax jorises, avi them, and make a vid -- is that even possible on the console?

Re: Favorite Games of all time:
Yes, but consoles don't get viruses, don't malfunction nearly as easily, and don't become outdated as fast. Games on consoles are built around the console hardware, not around the newest computer hardware that most people don't haveMax Rambone wrote:Consoles are basically just computers, too, ya know. Yes, but support for the console wasn't cut until 1995, and games were made up until that point.Max Rambone wrote:The NES came out in 1985 and the Super NES came out in 1991.
But if you don't upgrade, in time your computer shits out on you due to the technological advances of internet websites, games, and even OSes.Max Rambone wrote:It's true that advances are always being made in the computer world.... there's Moore's Law, Kryder's Law, and Nielsen's Law...but that's why I feel computers have an advantage...You CAN upgrade if you want...even if you don't need to.
My computer was bought in 2001, when Windows XP was brand-spanking new. It only came with 256 RAM. No computers back then had more than probably 512 RAM.Max Rambone wrote:I think you prices are kinda off one way or the other...

So your saying if I get trojans and keyloggers on my computer (which I did), that I should just figure out how to reboot it myself?Max Rambone wrote:If you get viruses and have to pay someone to fix it for you, you probably should not be doing things that would cause you to get a virus, get a better AV program, or learn to do it yourself.
Ok, I'll give you that one.Max Rambone wrote:I haven't heard of anyone needing a sound card upgrade in about 15 years and I think you can get a satisfactory sound card for less than $20 nowadays.
I'm not saying that the computers don't WORK, I have a Tandy 1000 SX from 1984 that still works. It can't do much though.Max Rambone wrote:My first PC is going on 16 years old and it still works. My second PC...still works...my third PC still works.

But Windows is the only thing you can yews for PC gaming. Gaming on Mac and Linux is a flat-out joke. Trying to yews anything but Windows XP currently is near-impossible.
Oh really? What if I want to play a game on a 3.5 floppy disk, or dare I say, 5 and 1/4 inch floppy? Those media formats are so outdated most computers don't have them, which leaves someone like me who wants to play a game from the 80s on my computer stuck. It's impossible to find a 5 1/4 drive for a computer today. And the fact that if you do run one of these games on your computer, they don't run perfectly, they run too fast, too slow, no sound, etc. Or sometimes they wont run at all.Max Rambone wrote:I disagree. But why do I have to pay more to get a controller or joystick to play some games like X-wing Vs. Tie Fighter? I find it to be a waste of money. I got lucky at a yard sale and managed to find a Logitech USB dualshock gamepad for $1, but I definitely won't shell out $20-30 for a controller to play maybe one PC game.Max Rambone wrote:Like I said, you can buy a nearly unlimited amount of controllers for the PC, but I do believe that the 360 controller is one of the best out there right now....That's why I bought one. Yeah, I don't play FPS or RPGs really. I play platformers, 2D and 3D fighters, racing games (basically Mario Kart and Sonic R), beat-em-ups, the occasional shmup, and run n' guns (like Metal Slug). So that's probably why I like consoles better than PCs in terms of gaming. None of those platforms are on PC (except for Racing, but that's Nascar and realistic racing games. I like my racing games like Mario Kart, competitive).Max Rambone wrote:While consoles are generally slightly cheaper, computers are(can be) far more powerful. Keep in mind that when a successor to a console comes out, it does not mean that the previous console is dead. For example, the NES. It came out in 1984, the SNES came out in 1991, but they were still making NES games until 1995.Turky wrote:I've seen NES to SNES, then N64, Gamecube, and the Wii. That's five.
