Adminning Announcement - READ

Post by GUARD!AN »

Hello hello siegers,

It has come to my attention that many of you are unhappy with how admin is distributed.

Here's some food for thought:

-There is not a single potential admin who everyone would be happy with - correct me if I am wrong, but proof of this lies in the fact that I allowed you all to nominate admins you thought would be good, and slowly but surely, all of them were accused of abusing at one point or another and stripped of admin, with Yo basically being the last person I theoretically would have stripped today

-Everyone seems to have a different idea of how adminning should be done - some of you take a more hands on approach, some of you are more laissez-faire, and some of you are more unpredictable and temperamental than my ex-girlfriend's dyslexic dog.

-Everyone seems to have a different idea of how Impulse should be used and played on - Some of the admins feel the majority should always rule, some feel the minority deserves a voice every now and then (or rather...an rcon map command)

Now here are the facts:

I have explicitly stated, TIME AND TIME AGAIN AND AGAIN, that LESS IS MORE when it comes to adminning. You don't yews admin just because you have it. The only thing admins should be doing is kicking live game joiners (banning repeat ones), banning server crashers, and maybe helping facilitate a game of zombies with restarts and such (but even that can be accomplished with simple voting)

The rest is summed up in anub's post. Thank you, you did in fact do me a huge favor:

A nub is In Ur Forum wrote:I am going to attempt to do Guard a favor here. I am definitely going to get bitched at for it, and that's fine. Have fun, kids!

It seems to me a hell of a lot of puggers (and some pubbers who join Impulse, as well) have pretty much forgotten, not read, or consider obsolete the rules Guard posted for Impulse. So I'm going to point out what you kids are missing in the hopes you will actually start abiding by them and stop creating shitty drama in the process of breaking or ignoring them. Guard can feel free to step in and correct any misinterpretations I may have, but don't expect me to so much as entertain objections from the rest of you: this is my opinion and you can goddamn cope if you disagree until Guard says otherwise.

From [topic=24]Impulse Information and Rules[/topic] (note really low topic ID #):
GUARD!AN wrote:You will notice there really aren't many rules, most of the time they are defined by the group playing there, these are just the universal rules no matter who is playing. There are also only 2 active admins to this server. This is because voting is enabled. Democracy is quite a wonderful thing. If someone joins a live game, don't cry for admins unless they are repeat offenders, just call a vote kick. If you want a different map, don't cry to an admin to change it for you, call a vote.

If your vote doesn't get passed, sucks for you. The republicans are finding ways to deal with the balance of power in the government right now, you can find a way to deal with it if the people you are playing with don't want to go to Korriban.

This seems to mean that:
  • You DO NOT /rcon map to WTFE you want, or EVER, really
  • You DO NOT /rcon kick or addip people without a DAMN good reason
  • You DO NOT /rcon forceteam someone unless you're DAMN certain Guard would be pleased you did
  • You DO NOT yews rcon to shutdown/stop the server. You just don't do it. Period.
  • You especially DON'T EVER disable voting unless it's ABSOLUTELY necessary due to MOST of the people on the server crying out for it.[/b] (and you make ABSOLUTELY certain it's back on before you leave... not that anyone screwed up on that point yet to my knowledge.)
I certainly do not have any one person in mind here: plenty of people have demonstrated a complete lack of comprehension of this basic overall point lately. And I don't think the basic premise here has changed any just because there are a few more admins these days to hopefully keep MR.KILL from ruining pugs. Perhaps if you kids actually bear this principle in mind before you start issuing rcon (or keramod) commands in the future, you'll actually keep rcon for more than a week? I, personally, am all for playing H3H, Cargo, and Korr (and Des over Hoth for that matter,) and rather against chain-Hoth, but you would never see me yews admin to force that. Ever. Period. Because it SHOULD NOT BE DONE. I think if we had a rule of thumb that /rcon map generally = instantly lose rcon permanently, there would be considerably less trouble on Impulse, because it's really not an even slightly grey area. It should not be used! Generally speaking, simple rule of thumb: If your vote does not get passed, you fucking live with it. You don't whine (especially not in-game; go make a forum thread if you need to QQ,) you don't re-call the vote 500 times, you don't abuse admin to force the issue, you don't preemptively yews admin to avoid putting it to a vote, you FUCKING DEAL WITH IT. If that means you leave or sit out and wait for a round you want to play in, leave or sit out! If you can play what the others want to play, constructively, fine, if you can't, you don't 'play' and then rage out or otherwise fuck up the round; if you can't bring yourself to play constructively, sit out or LEAVE. And if your vote DID pass, you don't incessantly nag people who really don't want to play it to play anyways, because that just creates shitty rounds. If someone doesn't want to play, LET THEM NOT PLAY. Sitting in spec not interfering is not a goddamned crime.
GUARD!AN wrote:Impulse was meant to be a pug server, but anyone or group of people are welcome to join the server, whether it be to hangout or train or even yews it for a siege match/scrim.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this means if a majority wants to play zombies, you play zombies, or you wait until a majority doesn't want to play zombies. Not as relevant these days, but just to point it out. Probably doesn't apply as much to vanilla games of e.g. CTF/FFA since there are so many other servers to do it on, but something like zombies is relatively a lot more 'siege-related' in the first place, so...
GUARD!AN wrote:3. Do not crash the server purposefully, through any of your various means.
For our CTF friend, and back in the day, tensor and a few others. But these days, Keramod is pretty much immune to all crashes out there (I'd know, I helped with that,) so it doesn't really matter unless/until someone comes up with another crash method for a 7 year old game: not likely.
GUARD!AN wrote:1. Do not join live games (just ask before joining, it's not that hard)
2. Do not lame live games (elevator lame, bridge lame, codes lame, cc lame, anything that will significantly slow down or speed up gameplay..for more on definitions of various laming see Tempest Rules)
These are the ones the pubbers have trouble with. Sadly, they probably won't read this.

I am sure that quite a few people are going to take offense at 'someone who doesn't PUG' posting this. That's fine. I really don't give a damn how often anyone here thinks I do or don't PUG. And yes, this post is caustic. It's very caustic. And it's caustic for a reason, and it's titled like it is for a reason. People have been selectively ignoring the basic principles of the server for way too long, and... surprise, if you've read this far, you've probably actually got some of the ideas actively in your head now! Too many people have been glossing over the rules themselves and focusing on individual incidents they didn't like for WAY too long now: the PRINCIPLES and thier application are what actually matter in the long-term. The causticness should serve to bring peoples' attention to it, reduce the tr;dr's, and make sure it at least sticks a little, which might actually help improve round quality! So, there you have it. Yes, the quotes are out of original order because I reordered it roughly by current importance. Don't be surprised if I don't seem to read any replies to this that don't involve an all-uppercase blue name, BTW.

~That horrible nub baddie who "doesn't PUG" (deal with it)
I did a lot of work defining the rules for Impulse originally when I made this website. Read them, and follow them.
