Most Influential Artists

Post by Laser »

For music that is, which bands/solo artists have changed the face of music forever, or at least influenced the community a lot?

These are my choices:
The Beatles
Queen
Bill Haley
Michael Jackson
Bob Dylan

Try to think of some obscure ones.

Influential?

Beatles, of course....seconded.

Nice on the Bill Haley....also seconded.

Bob Marley

Black Sabbath

Nirvana

Miles Davis

Herbie Hancock

Prince and the Revolution (Read: Just The artist formerly Known as 'the Artist Formerly Known as Prince')

Beastie Boys

Ray Charles

Marvin Gaye

The Beach Boys....(seriously.)

David Bowie

James Brown

Aretha Franklin

Otis Redding

Mary J. Blige

Sid Vicious/Sexpistols

Augustus Pablo

The Who

Just to name a few..... :)

Personally, the one group that changed the way I thought of music was 'Sublime.'

If you've never heard them, or only heard 'What I Got,' 'Santeria,' or 'Wrong Way,' you should really give them a listen.

They have tons of great music even though Brad overdosed before they ever had the chance to get huge.

If he hadn't, I believe they would have been one of the most legendary bands of all-time.

Those are some of my least favorite Sublime songs....if there is such a thing.

Those got tons of airplay here in the states, so maybe I just got burned out on them.

http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p ... ry=sublime

Make sure to listen to: (BUT maybe not in public...he throws a few explicit lyrics in here and there, but not much.)

40oz

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIuOLU_i ... 2C&index=0

5446/Ball and Chain - One of my favs

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZue9XUe ... 2C&index=1

April 26, 1992 - LA riots AKA Rodney King riots. LOL this one is animated...BTW the videos that came out for other songs have Brad superimposed because he was already dead when they started really selling albums nationwide here in the states.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGAs-i32 ... 2C&index=3

Badfish - The lyrics are awesome and so is the bass line.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KI2INBQV ... 2C&index=4

Caress Me Down - LOL, hornier than Ron Jeremy. And, if you haven't noticed yet, he sings in Spanish at random...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvEj5iZM ... 2C&index=8

Saw Red - This version is cool cause Gwen Stefani helps him out a little.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpMTOqKO ... C&index=47

Get out! - Great beat and pretty funny...some cool scratching/mixing if you like that sort of thing.

Meh.....youtube crapped out on me....just listen to them all... :)
